My Cake Decorating Phase

My Amazon Brazilian Jungle Cake

I decided to share about my cake decorating phase. It all started with two highly skilled migrants trying to get a permanent visa in Australia, the skills I already had got me 5 points below the necessary; so in a series of twists of fate I ended up doing a Pastry course and working for a good while in the area in order to get a permanent visa. Yes, got it about a year and a half ago. It was one of the greatest victories of my life.

Soon after I finished I went into using what I learnt in something I quite enjoyed doing: Cake Decoration. I would spend days doing the marzipan figures and creating themes, browsing the internet for pictures of the animals or figures I wanted to create... I’m proud to say I got a few nice creations.

I loved my ET field with all these three eyed figures and my Brazilian Jungle Cake.
It was a lot of fun. A few of my friend’s kids got cakes as birthday gifts, I wish the phase had lasted long enough to do at least one for each child but it didn’t. Its one of these artistic things that come and go and you cannot do it for obligation; it has to be for fun.

At the moment my energy is all outdoors: dancing, clubbing, travelling, etc.
Indoors: writing.

These are gorgeous! I love cake decorating, but I only ever seem to find time to do it at Christmas. I looked at doing a course recently but things conspired and I couldn't fit it in. But I'm sure that when I am old and retired I will spend a lot of time in the cake decorating phase!

Hi Mickey! Thanks! You will find a time in your life for the decorating phase, I am sure. It is good for an introspective period, I was in a moment for reconnecting myself with art and life from which I had lost a thread due to excessive work. The visa process is very demanding. So those hours creating these and the smile in the kid’s faces and the shine in the people’s eyes at the parties were very soothing and rewarding. You will have a lot of fun when you do it yourself!

Hi Tania,

These are absolutely exquisite, well done ... *lol* I just love the aliens, something for the trekkie in us all!

My youngest daughter wants to become a sweets chef (amongst other things) and has begun her own creative *somethings* a few years ago... heres a peek at one of her first efforts ...

Believe it or not, it was a delicious wholesome, two~tier carrot cake, under all that yellow stuff ~ which was a lovely banana falvour.

mmmmmm

Hey Chris and Rusty!

Yes they were eatable! Maybe a bit too sweet for Australians but nice for Brazilians. I made sure they had a thick filling and to get the sponge wet so it would taste good. Man that was a lot of work!!! Can't imagine myself doing one anytime soon...

Hi tania,
this is a lot more than GREAT, really artistic and creative,
i'am really willing to decorate my son's birthday cake next week, but could you help me deciding which dough is better for me as a beginner, is it the marzipan or the icing dough.

Thank a lot for you help
and thanks a lot for these amazing themes.
