The Chase

In the street lights and neon signs
we shine
wide eyed and looking for action
A fix for mouth and mind
chasing a high in city back streets
chasing a dream reality

In the booming darkness and strobes
we’re born
portraying grand illusions
A new identity built
on the base lines pulsating
on my feet moving to the beat

In the daylight
we’re shattered
haggard from past action
A pain throbs in the head and eyes
running from a pending hangover
running from a memory snatching sleep

In the bus going home
highs chased
and now
the low
